Hello guys/girls I'm new to the area as well to calguns . I am asking for help on areas on BLM land where I can take my 5yr old & also sight a few rifles in . I am in Modesto area so hoping to find somewhere within a short drive that's legal . We used to go to an area up around valley springs but recently it's been closed . Any help is greatly appreciated calguns .

OP, you would get more useful answers if you posted this question to the "General Discussion" Forum instead of this rather specialized and little visited Forum.
On Edit: Actually I just noticed that not only did you post the exact same question to the General Discussion forum that you did here but you also posted it in the Hunting and Fishing Forum. This is a no-no on CalGuns and a Mod might be sending you a notice.Last edited by Steve_In_29; 08-22-2015, 6:10 PM.Comment

damn you and your oppressive posts!!
call your local BLM office, they might be able to help. I believe yours is the Hollister office. according to the Hollister BLM office website (http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/holli...get_Shooting):
"Where can I go target shooting?
There are no designated target shooting areas in the Hollister Field Office area, however, Public Lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management are open to target shooting except when prohibited by other applicable laws and regulations. Fort Ord National Monument is closed to target shooting and hunting.
There are no BLM Public Lands administered by the Hollister Field Office within 150 miles of San Francisco that are publicly accessible for target shooting. We suggest visiting the National Shooting Sports Foundation website to find a range that is open to the public or visit the Santa Clara County Field Sports Park Shooting Range in San Jose that is managed by the County of Santa Clara."
since you are 90 miles east of SF, your local BLM office apparently believes there will be no shooting on BLM lands anywhere to the west of you, and nowhere closer than 60 miles east of you. sorry for the bad news.Last edited by God Bless America; 08-22-2015, 9:11 PM.Comment
