    Ice Chest - Ice Question

This is not a thread about an Engle or Dry Ice.

When using an ice chest to store ONLY canned beverages or Tupperware do you leave the melting water in or do you drain the water as it melts? Why?

I leave the water in. Cold has full contact with what you are cooling that way.

Agree, just make sure the tupperware is sealed tight.

The water with ice in it does a better job as a heat sink due to iits close contact with the containers in the chest, thus items stay the coldest possible with your particular ice source.

To extent the times items will stay cool, pre-cool cans etc in the fridge before putting them in the cooler. That lowers their initial temperature and their need to transfer heat, thus slower ice melting.

Now for game, I suggest keeping the drain plug open so the game does not sit and soak in the ice water. You will need to replinish ice more often.

Leave it in because it creates heat when you drain it. (I read that someplace anyway)

Leave the water in for reasons noted above so long as contents will be unharmed by moisture.

Add some block ice to the party ice as it takes much longer to melt than party ice and keeps things colder longer.
For block ice, fill a couple plastic half gallon milk containers (clean) with water and freeze before use. As this "block ice" melts, it stays clean, cold and drinkable.

I leave the water in when it's just beverages in the cooler.

If everything is well sealed, don't drain the water.

I save my extra 2liter soda bottles for this.
