Been to YNP.... Awesome place except it's congested. I live next door and choose more times than not to stay away. I go to the woods to get away, not stand shoulder to shoulder. I prefer my local forest. More than one can see on a regular basis without the headache and the fact I have to pay for something my tax dollars pay for...

        You are so very lucky.

How have the temps at night been? Contemplating a visit maybe in a couple weeks.

I know it can be tempting, especially because it looks so calm and not dangerous but never get into the water above the falls. This fall or any other fall for that matter. I got in once on this very spot. I got out quickly and was lucky that my brother in law was right there to put his hand out which I grabbed. I know it sounds like common sense but the water is very inviting after a long hot hike up the trail.

Since I live to the south and at a lower elevation I do not experience the same weather but here is accuweather with the latest.

Looks like upper 30s to lower 40s overnight.

Know what's coming with AccuWeather's extended daily forecasts for Yosemite Valley, CA. Up to 90 days of daily highs, lows, and precipitation chances.

              EM2,

I missed that Sierra Piont reference in your first posting, I was still tryin to catch my breath. Thanks.

I too live only a couple hours west from Yosemite. I've been going at least once a year since '68, even when I lived in the Pit (Bay Area). If you haven't been, get up to Saddle Bag Lake, catch the shuttle boat, and check out the loop trail in the primitive area on the other side. Grand slam of trout if you're a fisherman. PAX

Isn't there a railing there with big-*** signs that say not to get into the water? That's usually a clue.

A few years ago I and my kids stayed up at Saddle Bag Lake campground but we didn't take the trip to the far side of the lake.
We stayed there because it was the only campground we found available in the area. We were using that camp as our overnight so we could go into Bodie the next day.
Funny story, but when we went into Lee Vining and stopped for gas the station was still using the old 1970s era gas pumps and the attendant had to do the filling, wipe my windshield, and swiped my card on the old credit card slide thingy. They were in the process of building a new 'modern' station across the lot.

Good times, that lake sits @ about 10,000ft elevation and I had a headache the whole time.

Nope, no such sign or railing at this creek.
The only railing is the one at the overlook and at Yosemite Point but there are no signs telling you not to go over.
In fact at the overlook it was common to see the climbers on the outside of the railing.
Not me however, I have a serious problem with heights.

Thanks for sharing those awesome pictures! I took my family up there Feb. 2. It was bizarre to be hiking in shorts in February. Even then there was no snow. We drove up to the Tioga road closure trying to find snow for the kids to play in and found a tiny patch in the bottom of a meadow. It's going to be a dry summer!

FYI, the standard way to climb the Lost Arrow Spire is to start on the main wall and rappel into the notch at the base of the spire. You then climb to the top of the spire, towing your rappel line behind you. You tie off the rappel line tight to anchors on the spire and traverse this line back to the main wall. Stepping off that spire is like stepping out of an airplane, with 2500 feet of air to the valley floor under you! Exhilarating!!
