    Need a new machete

My old machete is pretty beat, it's bent like a trash can lid and is just cheap steel that doesn't hold an edge sitting still. I found the thing in the woods a while back, a firefighter left it after a brush fire. It bends just by using it and is starting to bend and break at the handle so I'm tossing it. Any suggestions for a decent one for actual work that won't break but won't break my wallet either?

I too like the cold steel line up. Lots to choose from.

I like Tramotinas. They cost about ten bucks. You can buy a couple, use them as intended, not beat yourself up if you strike a rock, and keep 'em keen with a file.

The Esee I'm sure is a great machete but expensive. Has anyone cleared brush with a Kukri? I've seen some that the blade has a steeper angle to it than others, wondering what difference that makes.

Condor or Imacasa, I prefer 18 - 22 inches and carbon steel (easier to sharpen, stays sharp longer, etc.) in the standard Latin style. Should run you somewhere between 15 - 20 bucks.

Have you tried the Condor Viking?

                        Get the Colima brand (Imacasa)

All that other garbage bolts a two piece handle on to the tang of the blade. The rivets and the seams between handle and tang will rip the crap up out of your hand over prolonged and serious use.

Colima's handle is overmolded over the tang. It lasts.

It will last until the machete has been filed down to a steel toothpick through sharpening and sharpening and sharpening over use.

I ended up getting the ash handle model with nylon sheath and stone. I found a coupon and ended up getting it for $37 delivered. Once I had it in my hand I was sorry I didn't buy several of them.

Ontario makes good durable machetes. Apparently used by the military.

The Ontario has some good reviews and the price seems right, thank you, and thanks for all the other suggestions as well!
