    Kids bows.

I have a new shooter and I have taken her to the range to experience
    a bow.

OC Archery she used a recurve.
Field time in Westminster she used a compound.

Now that she decided that she wants a Compound bow.
I am looking for a under a C-note bow set.

    I would like some feedback.

Big5 has the Crossman Elkhorn on sale for 50.

Anyone have any opinions on something else or is this a
decent set up that is range ready.

    TIA

I have found the cheap kids compounds are so poorly made that they take away the fun in shooting. Those Big 5 jobs are junk.

My 8 y.o. wanted a compound "like Dad" but I bought her a cheap fiberglass recurve. I ditched the heavy fiberglass arrows and bought the lightest, inexpensive carbons from Walmart. Screwed in some 65 grain tips and she is good to go. She has a blast shooting it even without the wheels.

If she is truly set on a compound, try and buy a used one. That way it is less of a loss if she gets bored with it.

Used are over 20lbs draw. And some guys think the are made from gold.

And I can't find used kids bows.

Matthews Genesis or mini Genesis. Well made, pricey from the get-go, but it is a bow an adult can shoot also. No set draw length so it can grow with your child. You might get lucky on craigslist or Ebay, but there arent many used ones out there due to their versatility. My six year old son shoots one that I backed off the limb bolts to lighten the draw. A half dozen youth carbon arrows, and your kid will be good for a few years easily.

Well it came down to this.
As RobG said. The bows from Big5 are junk.

She bought the Crossman Elkhorn and when we got it home to assemble .
          It had no Nock.

We returned it and turns out all of the "Youth Bows" have no Nocks.

A couple hours later we went to Hi Tech Archery in Fullerton.

Great service. Huge selection Reasonable prices.

She walked out with the bow she wanted from the get go.

PSE Snake recurve Silver Hunger Games edition with Silver arrows.

And I have a back quiver made by the 1980s PonyExpress gunshop that made the bow and arrow for Rambo 2

          Needless to say..
All is good and thanks to all who responded
