    Spyderclones?

Does anyone know what blade steel is used in say, the Paramilitary 2 clones?

By clone do you mean counterfeit? If it is a Chinese counterfeit then there is no telling what the steel is. It could be high quality or it could be on par with Pakistani crap steel.

Yes counterfeit, but I chose to say clone because there are some out there that are very hard to detect. I figured somebody has seen reviews and/or comparisons that may shed some light?

Their is no telling what kind of steel they use in the counterfeits. My best bet would be 8cr13mov or a lesser quality 6cr13mov or even 4cr13mov or something close to it. The reason I say this is because the counterfeits are possibly made in the same exact factory as the legit Chinese produced Spyderco's and most of the Chinese Spyderco's are 8cr13mov. This is purely a assumption. The steel could literally be ANYTHING as they pass them off as whatever steel that model is supposed to have so it really does not matter to them. 8cr13mov is a good steel in its own right, but when being passed off as a S30V it pales in comparison.

Just out of curiosity are you just interested or are you considering buying a knock off?

          I really doubt that.

You are right, but just because it is made in China doesn't mean it is crap. Some high end knives, flashlights, electronics come out of China. But because it is a counterfeit spyderco the chances are it isn't the best materiel being used.

REAL Spyderco's don't cost that much money and they use good steel---mine typically last for over 10+ years, then they go into the cars or bugout-bag for emergencies...

Thanks for the info. I wAs interested mainly because I see Spydies on Craigslist, and I suspect some of them are fakes, I would feel a lot better about owning a fake with decent steel though..

Any way or what should we look for to ID a fake Spyderco's? Not real familiar with the brand but do own a couple.

It depends on what model you are worried about. Each model that is faked has it's own set of tell-tail signs. If you have or are wondering about a specific model I would be happy to help to the best of my abilities.

A Native I bought not to long ago.
Edit following the links above and viewing the fakes I'm sure this one is the real thing.
BayAreaShooter thanks for the heads up and links.

Their are no Natives in the links I posted, but either way I am glad I could help.
