Looking for Bow

There are as many bows as guns out there. I like the feel of recurve bows. But if you want to hunt or just want to put the arrows on top of each other with sights you might want to look at the compound bows. Bear makes some good compounds on the less expensive side. You should go to a archery shop and play with a few. -
go check out the bowtech fuel. I picked one up a couple weeks after they were announced this year and it has been a great bow to get me back into archery. it cost me about 429.00 with a ready to shoot package. they usually go for about 499.00. haven't had the opportunity to hunt with it yet but hopefully as soon as my ankle is healed up and my knee is scoped i will get the chance to bring home a pig.
it a great adjustable bow as far as draw length and draw weight and it shoots really nice.blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

Compound or recurve?
There is no Glock 19 of bows. They all shoot and perform well but also a personal fit and feel. A Bowtech Assassin could be a close analogy...it's fairly inexpensive, versatile and black in color. I had one. Not bad but I'm more of an advanced archer.

Got a 2014 Bowtech Experience I can sell ya for 750 bare bow or 1600 loaded. Check the pic thread for specs. Otherwise if you want basic and reliable for a starter compound, check out a PSE RTS package. There are plenty to choose from. The Surge is a great starter and wont kill your bank. You can hunt, target and 3D with it on a budget.Comment

First I would try to find a place that will let you shoot some demo models. I would not recommend starting with a recurve, just because form is so critical and compounds are more forgiving, and compounds are more like shooting a gun. I bought a PSE Nova in 2005, spent 300 total and got to a point where I was shooting soda cans consistently at 50 yards. Any compound can be tuned like a piano, but one thing I will say is critical is do not get a bow that is too high in poundage.I fly everywhere backwards.

What is your budget?
Intended purpose? (Hunting and fun, correct)
Type preference? (Recurve, Compound)
Since this is your first bow, I would go to a range and have them size you up (Hi Tech Archery is a great option).
For a budget bow, check out some of the PSE bows. If you want something more towards the higher end of the spectrum, Hoyt makes a few excellent bows (I own a Carbon Matrix, which I am trying to sell. Great bow, but I don't shoot it enough).Comment
