not entirely correct. there are legal autos in CA. Actually, all autos are legal to own in CA, but there are restrictions on sales and transporting.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Any "legal to carry in California" auto knife is going to have a >< under two inch (or shorter) blade. Anything bigger would be legal to own, but don't get caught carrying it

I picked up a Kershaw Cryo last week that is faster, and locks up better than my grandfathers Schrade auto, and the Cryo is legal

            Part 6/Title 3/Division 5

*- Defines legal and illegal pocket knives. The most interesting part of the penal code is the following definition of the switchblade knives:
"As used in this part, "switchblade knife" means a knife having the appearance of a pocketknife and includes a spring-blade knife, snap-blade knife, gravity knife, or any other similar type knife, the blade or blades of which are two or more inches in length and which can be released automatically by a flick of a button, pressure on the handle, flip of the wrist or other mechanical device, or is released by the weight of the blade or by any type of mechanism whatsoever."
If you are wondering if you can get a LTC in Riverside County: THE ANSWER IS YES!

I did my research on legality ... Under 2" is legal...and that means under not 2"...

So Shrade is decent?...I'll look at the Cryogenic...thanks!

so does that mean that you aren't interested in switchblades anymore and are looing for assisted-openers now?

Here's one source to look at, http://www.bladehq.com/cat--California-Legal-Auto--325

I've seen the benchmades before, never owned one but they were pretty good.
Schrade, never seen one before. $40 for one scares me a bit. I don't like cheap autos.
Protech, have a couple Runts and Stingers around the house somewhere. nice blades made in CA.
As I mentioned before, my EDC piece is a GT Kinves that hangs on my keychain, http://www.bladehq.com/item--GT-Kniv...utomatic--2972 .

I've also got a 1.9" Microtech UTX-70 that is a very nice D/A OTF piece to play with.

Those are most of the common high-end production ones that I know of. There are some custom makers that do 1.9" models but they are hundreds of dollars.

                        and another one, http://nicnac.net/contents/en-us/d14...al_Knives.html

there seems to be another online vendor that specifically lists quality CA autos but I cant find it right now.

and the CA-legal microtech I mentioned before is a limited production item that Microtech doesn't even catalog AFAIK. someone will talk them into custom grinding some UTX-70 blades down to 1.9" and putting together a batch. here is one in stock at nicnac, http://nicnac.net/contents/en-us/p25..._CA148-1T.html

My grandfather's is, but it was made in 1944 when stuff was built to last forever

For the price, I'm going to have to pick up one of these new Schrades to compare (even if it is a stubby )

Can you provide a reference to any law that says this?

I think that you're kinda wrong here.

About the closest to this that you'll find is Penal Code section 21510. It outlaws the carrying of switchblade knifes with a blade over 2". It does nothing to ban the possession of switchblades. (Please note that former Penal Code section 653K no longer exists) Here's the text:

If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. If you set a man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.
