I'd look on archerytalk.com for a used Mission bow by mathews. They are really good bows with a TON of options that you can change for draw length, and weight. Really good bows.

I think you are going to like it! I have been shooting it for the better part of a year and I am impressed with the performance and value.

Bass Pro is good because you can feel out all the different brands and see which one fits you best.

There are some nice used setups you can also find on ebay for around 200 - 250'ish. These are 2 off the top of my head that come to mind. You never said are you a lefty or righty, what's your draw length?
Bear Element (Shot one of these for several years... was a great bow!)
Pse Stingers (2 friends I shoot with have these and are very pleased with what they got for there money)

I also have a PSE 3 pin sight that I took off my Brute if you don't have a sight and may also have another release that I don't use anymore. Be more than willing to let you have it to get you up and started if you want.

I just bought a used compound bow for $200 and I love it. It's a tack driver compared to my recurve. It's a PSE I'll post pictures later.

I bought a bail of hay at the feed store wrapped it in shrink wrap and shoot in the garage. 1st arrow out of the compound bow went through the bail and stuck in the wall behind it.

OP what area are you in?

                      check craigslist.

                            $400 Monterey

Everything you see here which includes the Muzzy 3 blades plus some brand new Montec G5's, wrist release and a 6 sided target in excellent condition

I also have a brand new Tru Ball diamond thumb release that I would let go of for an additional $75

Good shooting, But you'll go through arrows pretty fast shooting them all at the same spot like that. Use a few different aiming points on your target or put a few 1" or 2" dots on the target. Dont shoot more than 2 arrows at the same spot. Tight groups and Robin Hoods are cool until it gets expensive.
