A couple of weeks ago, I bod on and won a box of stuff because there were a couple of vintage Lyman tang sights I could see in the pile. Among the other "junk" that was in the box was this old rusty knife in a a moldy leather sheath. The knife was very rusty and had a broken tip. Turns out, under all that rust (and significant pitting) were the words "KABAR" on one side, and "USMC" on the other. Also - each of the stacked Lucite discs were letters in red - "JAMES" on one side, "SLAWSON" on the other.
I re-profiled the broken tip, removed the rust, and gave the knife a very keen sharp edge. Still heavily pitted but back in service, and the sheath cleaned up and reconditioned very well.
