I m new to knives for edc

I recently bought the griptillian mini and then later the full size. I never knew why people spent so much on knives but now I get it.

What do you guys think of benchmade?

I m looking at the redoubt or the Osborne next?

Just in case you don't understand the comments above mine I'll explain there is some hate from some of the gun Community directed at benchmade.

There was one episode where Benchmade helped some law enforcement Police Department cut up firearms that were turned in at a gun buy back or gun confiscation. I think they thought it would get them good press but a lot of people think that the police could have afforded one power tool and done it themselves.

I've also seen people comment that Benchmade gives financial support to some anti-gun causes or politicians. But I don't have all the facts of that to pass on to you.

So they might be great knives, I don't know I've never owned one but many in the gun community do not approve of Benchmade or any companies getting into anti-gun politics.

I found the video that basically explains that whole gun cutting up story and they were contributing to anti-gun politicians but supposedly other companies were also giving "Substantial donations" to anti-gun politicians like Surefire and Eotech. ...

Looking on the bright side, as I try to do, I think they learned their lesson ( and hopefully taught other companies). Personally, although I might not buy a brand new Benchmade now I wouldn't throw away any that I purchased in the past because they have/had a good reputation as a quality knife.

All that being said.

Marty Daniel has arguably done MUCH more harm to the civilian 2a community than BMs destruction of firearms for LE ever did.

And yet, DD is still considered to be at the top of the AR pyramid, and the same folks who will demonize BM will support DD (or Ruger, etc...)

Benchmade makes good reliable US produced products, that should last a lifetime, and then some...

Abused a pair of Griptillians for about 10 years on a daily basis at work and they held up just fine. But, earlier in the year I tried the Bugout mini (and then the regular Bugout) and those have taken over. Just an overall better fit in my hand. I'd suggest trying those out if you're able to.

I didn't watch the video, and I don't know Benchmade's politics. I, however, personally have no problem with gun buy backs. If people don't want a gun anymore and want to get a few bucks for it, so be it. Its not something that you just throw away in a trash can. They may not want to hassle with trying to sell it through a gun store, and quite honestly, I don't want criminals getting their hands on them.

Do I ever spot guns in photos that were sold at gun buybacks that are collectible and I wish I had the chance to purchase them? You betcha.

But I don't fault the idea or program, and I don't fault any business that helps destroy the guns collected.

I would argue my M4 Superfreek is a better knife than my 1st gen Ritter Hogue.

After years of owning cheap Gerbers and CRKTs, I bought my first Benchmade from their Oregon City HQ almost 8 years ago. Went with a lightweight Osbourne and never looked back. I don't care for the politics of the company, but they make a damn good product (for a big-name/mainstream knife company).

They do carry a stiffer price tag (but not that expensive when you compare it to bespoke knifes that are made to order), and you can account the majority of that price tag to their product support/warranty. I've had numerous friends send in their knives for the free sharpening and when the blade gets too thin to sharpen, it's either replaced free of charge or for a small fee (like $20; depending on the metal type).

Benchmade makes quality stuff .If I can a buy a product that pays for the value of the item fairly quickly and then some I have no problem giving you my money , our politics don’t need to be the same and I won’t hold it against them unless there moneys are going overseas to support drug trafficking ,Communism or Dr Evil ruling the world.

As posted in another thread in OT, I am a huge fan of the benchmade Mini Grip, however I didn't like the scales so I threw down more money and bought the AWT scales. I also bought a different pocket clip so it sits low in the pocket.
