    Minimizing liability?

If you find yourself in a life threatening situation and are worried about liability it's best to run away or just stay at home in the first place.

There's no such thing as avoiding liability. Always a shyster somewhere willing to sue you on behalf of the stabee for harassment value.

The law will treat your use of a knife no different than use of a gun. Both will be considered use of lethal force.

If you defend yourself with a knife, you'll stab yourself.
If you defend yourself with a gun, you'll shoot yourself.
If you defend yourself with pepper spray, you'll blind yourself.

A knife is a deadly weapon. You will need to articulate that you had a reasonable fear for your life. The video showed the use of a knife in situations where you are being grabbed. Unless there are other exigent circumstances those situations do not justify the use of a knife.

Geez, just cut or stab as needed to stop the threat.

That's not what he was claiming. He was saying "In a knife fight, you're going to get cut", which is pretty much the first sentence out of the mouth of every instructor I've ever had. YMMV.

If I ever need to cut/stab someone with my knife I’m going for stabs 100% over slashes. I use my knife too often to be able to depend on a razor edge when I need it. I’m stabbing and stabbing deep. If you deserve it you’re getting full pen.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

No, sir. That is not what he said. In your overzealous attempt to impress us with the number instructors who have given you advice, you got it wrong.

What he SAID, was "90% youll also cut or stab yourself."

There is a obvious reason that the general rule for a fighting knife is to have a blade of at least 7"... it is so it will reach vital organs while not slashing. Why limit yourself to stabbing or slashing though. Arteries can definitely be slashed, but stabbing is not ineffective - it is opposite.

Look at defensive tools like ice pick style shanks, etc... they can't slash.

This business owner didn't slash once AFAIK... looked pretty effective.
