    Surface rust removal ?

What's the best way to remove this rust without damaging the finish? It won't come off when scraping w/ my fingernail. Assuming I will need to dismantle it. The steel is Nitro-V.

Wd40 with extra fine steel wood should do the trick

Start with oil on a paper towel and some elbow grease. If that doesn't work you can move up to oil and steel wool. Kroil or WD40 as mentioned work, but really any oil is fine. You can also rub with a oil and wooden dowel.

Magica paste works well from what I recall.

Tried a pencil eraser - didn't do much other than fade it a bit.

Then tried some Kroil and a '60s penny. Worked ok on the frame, but kind of discolored the blade (enough to bother me) and yet there are still faint stains where the corrosion was.

I talked to Millit (who made it) and they're gonna fix it up for me for a few bucks.

This has always worked for me, even on blued steel.

I have a D2 blade with the weirdest spotting. I'm going to try the ideas here on opposite side of blade to see which works best.

Try flitz metal polish, the green one. I've had great luck removing MINOR surface rust. If that doesn't work. Try 0000 steel wool. I'm surprised that steel rusted.
