For the exact reason and situation the OP is in, I don't carry an expensive knife as an EDC. I know that not "cool" because it's all about having something super expensive in your pocket that you're in most cases just going to use to open mail or a UPS package.

For the last year or so I've been carrying a $30-$35 Buck 112 Slim Select. Stays sharp (I strop it now and then to keep a nice edge), has a deep carry clip and is really light. Hard to beat for the price, IMHO.

Based on an American classic, the 112 Ranger, the 112 Slim knife possesses the same traditional features but sports a more modern look. Made in the USA. The larger 110 version is on sale from Buck for $27.99

OP, I’ve used the hell out of a couple griptillians the past 12 or so years at work and loved them. However, switched to a mini Bugout recently (and then a regular bugout) and am so much happier with them. I’d suggest at least trying one out of you haven’t yet. Hope this helps any.

You can't go wrong with a US made Buck (won't buy one of their ChiCom ones). Their "spa" service is the best bar none.

Way higher quality, IMO. I have one Benchmade left, the Tengo... and a pen.I have a toolbox drawer full of Benchmade knives but haven't carried any of them in years.

Since about 2019 my EDC has been a Zero Tolerance 0562CF. In my opinion they're a higher quality knife than Benchmade.

I used to have half a dozen original Presidios. I kind of miss the Contego 810.

I've broken a lot of cheap knives, but never lost a high quality one that I can recall... came close a few times when people borrow them and set them down instead of giving it back.Comment
