    ? for Lansky kit users

What blade angle do you put on your EDC blade: 17, 20, 25, or 30 degrees? I've been using 25 which seems the best combination for sharpness and durability.

Depends on the knife grind and steel. But most of mine are either 20* or 25*

Since I spent some time learning to sharpen freehand, and spent some cash on a Wicked Edge, I find myself looking for any excuse to sharpen something!

With that in mind, I lean toward a few degrees finer than most, with the corresponding greater number of trips to the stone.

I live in suburbia, I don't even have a job, I really don't find many opportunities to cut things in the course of the day. So I keep the EDC's at 17-18 per and the hard use edges at 20 per, and sharpen them more often than most guys would, which is a benefit for me!

I'd keep the kitchen knives at 15 per, but my wife is a little tough on them, so I sharpen them at a slightly more robust 17-18 per.

Consider a 'micro bevel' - sharpen at 25*, final hone at 30*

Or whatever the Lansky Jig is set for; i.e. - sharpen with a coarser stone at the shallower angle and hone with a finer stone at the steeper angle for a micro bevel

I use this method for Chisels, Plane Blades and etc

            20 or so

I have knives with steel that can handle abuse. My spyderco police could not be sharpened by spyderco so they reground the serrations.

My delicate knives I wond abuse like the spyderco.

            20 degree for pocket knife
            15-16 degree for kitchen knives

I use a lansky for broadheads but not my pocket knife. The pocket knife gets a lot of use so sharpening has to be quick & easy. Start to finish, I'm done in about 2-3 minutes. For the Lansky, I'd just be getting started in that amount of time.

I like my lansky when I'm being really particular about the edge & maintaining a perfectly consistent angle. Broadheads & a short skinning knife are about the only thing I use it for. Those tools only get a few uses a year so I don't mind taking the extra time on them. I'll use the 25 degree angle for those. Single bevels get the 30 otherwise, I'm grinding the ferrule. But for a pocket knife, kitchen knife, etc., where I'm honing every 2-3 weeks, the Spyderco is hard to beat. It's set for 30 degrees, I think.
