    Recommend me a multitool

    Hey all,

XMas shopping is coming up, and I decided to give a paramedic/firefighter sibling a nice multitool. Budget is under 100$. They are not knife-people naturally but I think it would make a good practical gift- any EMS who think otherwise, please let me know/alternative gifts. the multitool would not necessarily just for on-the-job, though.

What's a high-value piece with a nice sheath (it will be belt-carried)? There are too many options, some highly-specialized, and I'm just looking for something close to a nice jack-of-all trades as possible. Needs to have- pliers (obviously), knife, philips/ flat head, bottle opener, at the very least.

It's not possible to go shopping with the person and have them pick it out.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

    I've owned many multi tools.
I like Gerber much more than Leatherman.

Over the years I have become very used to the utility of sprung jaws on a multitool, I carried the Gerber suspension for years but now carry the Leatherman Wingman.
I have lost count the number of times it's been put to good use.
Nice gesture on your part. I am sure he will love whatever you get him.

I have a Leatherman Micra on my keychain which gets the most use. A Gerber Suspension is in my carry pack which is a little more user friendly and robust at the pivot points.

I carry a Gerber that my son gifted to me many years ago and it's been through the wringer, and still in better shape than I.

I cannot speak for new models and have no idea the model of mine.

I would think any of the top two, three manufacturers will be good selections.

Thanks for the post. Yup, it looks like that's what I'll do. I thought maybe there was a "Glock 17" or "Benchmade Griptillian" of multi-tools that I was having a hard time picking out, but I guess any of the popular models will do. I think my sister will enjoy whatever I gift her

I could never support leatherman and their anti-2nd amendment stance.

I carried a Gerber during my time in the Marines, took a beating and always worked. Locking blades are a must and one handed opening was a plus too.
