Spyderco Sharpmaker for me.

Not an expert with it yet but use the grey stones on my kitchen knives every so often for a quick edge when they start getting dull.

I do find it hard on the longer knives to get the whole blade in one stroke but do get good results otherwise.

DMT diasharp fine/xfine stone
Lansky hard arkansas stone
Harbor Freight tri-stone sharpener
Strop loaded with Tormek compound.


I usually go from the hard arkansas stone to the DMT stone and finish up on the strop.

If not, I'll use the Lansky deluxe system.

Keep your eyes peeled at flea markets

So this guy I know found a 10x2 Translucent Arkansas Stone at garage sale for $30. Sold it to a knife shop for $400. He was asking $500.

The supply of quality translucent stones dried up years ago. What the suppliers are selling now is cut from rejected stones. That is why it is rare to find a translucent that is over 6" for sale anymore.

Interesting, I've had a few small Arkansas Stone's, I didn't care much for them because I like a more aggressive edge.

I just use the cheap 2 sided stone from the hardware store. Cost me about $8. Finish with a few strokes on the kitchen steel and its shaving sharp. This method has worked for me for over 25 years. I see no need for all those new fangled gadgets.

Most good knifes get this to maintain edge angle.

I just got the Ken Onion Worksharp.

Holy F. I've used pretty much everything, and this makes sharpening a knife about 10 times faster and you wind up with it being as sharp as anything you've ever seen. It's amazing. It makes the Sharpmaker look like a $5 Amazon pull through.
