    Ratled,
The link you have there seems to be Stropping "Compound", not a Stropping "Bar".

    From the site:
Perfect 2 tier stropping system for use with our double sided leather paddle strops!
I was about to say JUMP on that price ($4.30) for a Stopping Bar until I read a bit further. That seller seems to only sell the Compound.

    Hope this helps Ratled.
    Regards,
    Mike

Thanks for the feed back Mike. Yea I want to try leather for sharpening but didn't know I needed a compound too. For that price I went ahead and ordered it for the final work.

You aren't realy going to be getting much sharpening out of a strip without compound. The best you can hope for is to straighten out the micro bevel (technically you can sharpen with only leather, but assuming you don't have hours to devote just to stropping). Just load up your strop (a little goes a long way) and you will be able to get a very good final edge after whatever primary sharpening method you like.

Make sure you clean out the strop every now and again and reload.

Thanks for the info RM! Knew to the leather sharpening but I really like the results everyone is supposed to get. Any suggestions on how or what to use to clean with every now and then?

Kinda depends on how often you use it I guess. I do about once a year. Don't know if this is right, just what works for me, you could did once every few months if you are really anal about it. You can scrape the compund off with the spine of a knife or putty knife maybe. After you get the bulk of it off, saturate it with rubbing alcohol and wipe it with paper towels. When it has completely dried, load it with compound again.
