Bowie Knives

So I know very little about knives but have always wanted a good quality Bowie Knife. What would be a good brand say in the neighborhood of $500 to $1500?

In that range you are not so much talking brands, but knife makers. In fact for that price point you could probably research a maker who's style you like and commission a custom. I would strongly advise for you to checkout blade forums. There is also a For Sale area that is for Knife makers to post their creations to.

That's a nice budget to work with. You need to decide if you want something strictly functional, or if you want a piece of art. You can certainly get a quality blade for less than $500 or you can spend your whole budget and really get something fancy.
If it were me, I'd order a couple Randalls. They're classic, beautiful, and proven. About a 4 year wait right now.
