Left-eye dominant means left-hand pull? (Archery)

I have been hanging out at the range at Conejo Valley recently. According to the instructors there, since I am left eye dominant, I should pull the arrow with my left hand and basically am left-handed concerning archery. I am right-handed. Is this right? I have heard different things down there at the range from other archers. Thanks!

Do what is comfortable. My daughter is left eye dominant, she shoots left handed even though she is right handed.

It was no problem for her to learn this way, but she didn't have any experience in shooting sports before archery.

If you close your left eye while shooting, it doesn't matter. You are supposed to shoot with both eyes open, but I can't do it.

here's a fairly good rundown of the whole thing.

Thanks. The article is quite interesting. For anyone concerned, the Conejo Valley range is a very nice place and a good place to take the kids, Matt

I'm no expert, but out at Rahauges during the youth safari they tested the kids eyes by having them look through a hole in a piece of cardboard at arms length to determine eye dominance. Then they had them shoot as you described. (Its probably easier for a kid to adjust though.)

If you can learn to shoot with your right eye (shooting right handed), you'll be good. If you are shooting a compound bow, it won't be all that difficult due to the small round peep sight. With a recurve or longbow it'll be a bit more difficult. Just practice and it'll come to you. It's amazing why you can train you brain to do through repetition and practice.

It was very strange for me at first being that I'm right handed. After my second trip to the range it was easy to adjust to and seemed natural.

Do you shoot a rifle right handed? If so, do you think the same principle would translate over and make it easier for you to shoot left handed because of eye-dominance?

I wonder because my son is right handed and left eye dominate. He wants to lay his whole face over on the stock and use his left eye while shooting right handed.

BTW - He was a natural at shooting the bow left handed.

I'm left eye dominant and I've always shot right handed without any issues.
