      Just a suggestion, rather than buy a compact to start, maybe go to the range and rent a few things to try out to see what fits her and see what she likes? What she can rack. And also she might like the recoil reduction and east of targeting of a standard pistol with modest grip size rather than compact. Best of luck!

        Thanks. Appreciate the suggestion. Shes got a really small hand so i dont think a standard grip is going to fit her. Shes tried a few already...compacts seem to fit best. If she doesnt like it i can always keep it as a carry gun!

            Give some serious thought to why you feel the need for a “compact” handgun. Keep in mind that recoil and noise/muzzle blast is directly related to barrel length and the weight of the gun. Why do you want to handicap your wife and have her shoot a gun that is difficult for experienced shooters to shoot well? What is wrong with a full size Glock 17, or one of the other full size guns currently available on the market? My wife is 5-3 and weighs 107 pounds and can shoot her Glock 17 just fine, althought she does prefer her Glock 19.

            I do think a quality .22 pistol is a great gun for a new shooter. Nothing wrong with the Ruger .22's.

              hi mbg,
              if my wife is any example;
              she doesn't like auto's; too complicated
              she doesn't like my J frame S W too much kick.
              she likes my K frame S W mod 19.
              lesson learned: small isn't necessarily better. slower is faster.
