Don't know if you guys have O'Reilly auto parts stores down there, but they'll usually scan your codes for free.

Lots of parts store will do it for free - they figure you'll be buying parts from them.

Where are you in San Diego? Most of the auto supply stores will let you use one in exchange for your driver's license. And if that doesn't work, I have one.

You can buy a blue tooth one off ebay for 20 bucks and the app "torque" on your smart phone is 5 bucks.... Well worth it

Also, autozone will "lend" you on at cost. Soon as you return it you get you 100 or so bucks back

from what I understand, they are not allowed to loan them out in CA. I called autozone and that's what they told me. Couldn't get my hands on one today so I just ordered off of amazon, $15!

Auto parts stores won't scan your codes. Something about accepting liability or some such nonsense, which I believe in this state. I bought the harbor freight one for $85, but it's in Long Beach with someone else right now.
