Hello all, looking for a gunsmith in the 91340 or surrounding area who can lap scope rings.

You really do not need a gunsmith to lap rings; it's a very easy task that only takes a couple of minutes to do. Just pick up a kit from Midway or Brownells and have at it. If you can file your fingernails without incurring self-injury, you can lap your own rings.

I was thinking about doing that but want sure if the cost would be worth it, given that I will most likely own just one precision precision rifle. Maybe I should look for a used kit?

Well, if you're using a top tier Picatinny rail and rings (eg. Badger, Seekins), you might not need to lap the rings. Anything else and I'd recommend it. All of the money that you've invested in your rifle, and especially your optic, could potentially be wasted if misaligned rings are putting stresses on your scope.

$55 for a scope lapping kit from Midway is cheap insurance for your optic, probably wouldn't be much more than a gunsmith would charge you, and after you've lapped your rings, you'd still have the kit for future use. NO ONE STOPS AT OWNING JUST ONE PRECISION RIFLE!
