    Trade for S&W Model 686

I have recently had returned to me a Smith & Wesson Model 629 'Mountain Gun' chambered in .44 Rem. Magnum, stainless steel, tapered 4" barrel, factory Hogue monogrip with S&W logo. I'm more interested in a trade than selling it outright. The gun was stolen from me in 1995 and recently made its way back (through legal channels, of course - if you have time, I'll tell you the whole story). Whoever was in possession in the last 16 years seemed to mishandle it a bit, but it's in great shape overall.
What I'm specifically looking for is an equivalent stainless steel Model 686, 4" barrel, chambered in .357 Magnum and holds 6 shots. Preferably late 1980's - early 1990's (nothing newer than '93) vintage. Don't care about the grip, but would prefer an original with no modifications to the sights, trigger, etc.
If you have such a revolver and are SERIOUSLY interested in a trade, please contact me. I no longer have the original box for the gun, as I expected that I would never see it again after the theft, and I may have the original owner's manual in my files. I do have the original bill of sale and all of the paperwork from the DOJ and local LE. The gun is currently at a S&W authorized repair shop and is getting a thorough cleaning, checkout, etc. I will post pics as soon as I have it back from the shop. If you're in SoCal, that's ideal, but we can work something out if you're further away.

I may be interested in a trade.
I have a 4" S&W 686 NO-dash that I bought unused around 1982. I bought it from from a Police Academy cadet who bought it new but washed out.
It is registered to me. Serial # ACK23XXIt has had a busy life, but not fired too much. Still very accurate.
Original sights. Has Pachmayer rubber grips. I think I may even have the original Cocobolo wood grips.
Trigger has been smoothed out beautifully by National Police Shooting Champion Jerry Eason.
Minor handling marks, all acceptable for its age and traveling. There is a small 'dent' about 1/16th inch long on the crane side of the upper cylinder window. I don't know what caused it or when.
Minimal flame cutting inside the top strap at cylinder gap.
Original sights. A line was marked on the front hi-viz orange site for shooting comps, shooting .38 wadcutters.
I just had it checked out by our gunsmith shop a few weeks ago by our S&W guy (Kit King @ JRH Advanced Gunsmithing in Grass Valley, CA). I gave it to my father for camping years ago and I just got it back. He never shot it while he had it. It functions flawlessly and still very accurate.
I am looking for a 'non-pristine' packable gun for hiking / exploring the high country and I would rather carry the Mountain Gun in .44 than a more accurate .357 for bears that are around every tree.

I can post pics of mine when you get yours back from your gunsmith.
Contact me via e-mail when you can post pics.
I work at a gunsmith Shop so I know mostly what to look for in a used magnum gun. I would ask for specific pics of yours, and of course we would have to agree to a 2 week inspection keep / return in case there is something wrong with either one of our guns that we don't know of.
I am in NorCal, between Sacramento and Reno, NV

      neyankee is a good man.
He showed up when, and where, he said he would. His trade was just as he described.
      Great communication, honest, and patient.
I would deal with Neyankee anytime.

      Cheers-
