    The sales tax laws has not recently changed. Sales tax has to be charged if the firearm comes from an out of state business, not just that it is coming from out of state.

    There are MANY FFLs who are not aware of the laws regarding sales tax. I recently learned that if the firearm comes from a business that collects sales tax in CA, that business also has to collect the sales tax on the fee of the transfer dealer. The problem is that the seller does not know what the transfer dealer charges and if the person is transferring multiple firearms from different sources, then it is impossible to determine the amount that each seller would be required to collect.
