    WTB: Cheap Laptop with wifi

I talked to a good friend of mine on the phone yesterday and found out that he got canned from his job.

The guy is amazingly talented with wood and metal and had done some gunsmithing work that just absolutly blew me away (I sold him a few of my guns a couple of years back because they were ugly/damaged and he refinished them so well that I do not recognise them)

The problem is that he doesn't have a portable computer or internet access where he lives, so he can't get online to offer his services to all of us.

This is a real shame since the guy has a small machine shop in his garage and does some of the nicest woodworking/ metal finishing that I've seen.

I'm looking to try to get him a laptop so we can take advantage of his services... a good battery or a car adapter would be a real plus, I would prefer it be a windows xp system if possible.

I know it is ironic that I gave away a couple of laptops that would have been perfect on here before I moved to NYC for school, but I didn't want to transport them and I couldn't store them...

So.... can anyone hook me up with something cheap (and I mean CHEAP, I don't have much expendable cash right now)

This guy's skills are going to waste down in Lompoc while he can't find work and we all sit here with AK furniture that needs to be refinished, pistol kits that need to be turned down (yes he has a lathe), and all sorts of other stuff..

The guy is an absolute artist, and I can't in good conscience sit idle while his skills are wasted fixing mopeds for gas money.

So... Step #1 is getting him a laptop so he can be in contact with everyone

Step #2 is getting some ak furniture and possibly an AK parts kit to turn into a pistol so he can demonstrate his skills.

Please let me know what you have that you can hook him up with and what it will cost to make it happen

Couple hundred? I've got a good one that works well except for once in a while the screen blanks out if you move it around (best to just open it and leave it alone!)
Takes a wifi PCMCIA card which I will include.

Has XP and SP2 (maybe SP3 too, I can check), complete MS Office package, misc. other programs on it too I can include, or strip off.

        Let me know!

EEE PC is on sale I think for $230 at Best Buy right now. Good luck with getting one. Maybe until then he could go to a friends/neighbors for internet access, or maybe a library also.

I got one for free from some guy on this forum but, he took out the hard drive. My life has been changing dirrections so much lately, I haven't put a new hard drive in it. It's here in the same condition that I got it in, if he wants to pick it up.

Let us hope our weapons are never needed --but do not forget what the common people knew when they demanded the Bill of Rights: An armed citizenry is the first defense, the best defense, and the final defense against tyranny. If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government -- and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws."
