I am an administrator responsible for 9th grade students in a historically low performing high risk secondary school in Los Angeles near the area known as "the Jungle" (for those of you who know where that is). I would prefer to not name the high school at this point.
I am asking calgunners who have outgrown their old video game systems to consider donating them as awards for 9th students who have made significant improvements.
The idea is to award students with something harmless to do with their time, something fun, so when they go home they have something to do at home away from gangs, tagging, crews, etc.
So. For those of you who have SNES, Genesis, PS2, Game Cube, N64, Playstation, XBOX1, etc systems collecting dust at home... if they still work... consider donating them. When your system is awarded you will be sent a thank you note from the kid receiving it and on my official stationery as well.
In any case, this is my offical email address:

contact me if you are interested. you will have to pay for shipping and I can't offer you any tax reduction... this is strictly a, "I want a kid to have as much fun as I had with this toy... I'm done with it now, it's time for some other kid to play with it" kind of deal.
I have donated my own PS2 toward this goal. Systems will be awarded in December at an awards ceremony with parents present. Pictures will be taken.
ps: games are welcomed of course but will have to be screened... we cant give away GTA San Andreas, for instance, for obvious reasons (even though I think the game makes a statement about socio-economical class issues and struggles)
