This is a rifle that I received when a neighbor passed away. I am in no way an expert on these rifles so I am listing it with the information that I have collected from his wife.
From what I have been able to gather, this rifle has some original parts and some newer parts. The barrel, trigger assembly, and stock are original. The stock has the Springfield cartouches S. A. / G.A.W. (Springfield Armory / George A. Woody). Even though George A. Woody died in August 1944, his inspection stamps remained in the Stamp Racks until March of 1945. An overlap with the SA/NFR stamp. Other stamps used on the stocks were the circled 'P' proof mark (with serifs) on the pistol grip, and the Ordnance Wheel with Crossed Cannons. The wheel was .437" in diameter. A small .188" Ordnance Wheel was stamped on the bottom of the pistol grip.
The action is newer than 1957 and has a serial number of 7007518. I have not fired the rifle but it is my understanding, according to my neighbor's wife, that her husband did on occasion. With that, I took the gun to a local gun shop to have it looked at and they informed me that the gun is in very good condition. It is a great looking relic even if the action is newer. I'd like to see this gun end up in the hands of someone who can appreciate it. I also have about 100 rounds of ammo to go with it.
I think a fair price would be in the neighborhood of $750.00
