No, these were in customs when the HW Bush import ban came down in 89. Guns already here but not clear of customs were put into ban config (welded cap on threads, bunghole stock, etc) and renamed.

examples of these: 756S7, HK911, 156S-1

because the 56S was banned from importation, they were renamed and are thus a different model. Some other “caught in customs” guns had their markings struck out and were renamed other things like nhm90. Shortly after this, most Chinese aks were renamed mak90 (then legal for import but banned by name in CA circa 1992). Clinton ended the import of all Chinese guns circa 1994.

separate from the import ban, Roberti Roos also banned 56S by name (also in 1989). But the 756S7 is not a 56S.
