    H&K SL8-1 rifle

I purchased this rifle off of Gunbroker.com

And ran into a few issues. It is a grey SL8 that has been dyed black and it has a flash hider. It is now in TX with Steve Ou, a CA friendly FFL who will ship to your FFL, He has Ade’s FFL on file. We believe the flash hider is welded on, so you could either fix the mag or get a gunsmith to remove it. I really wanted a factory black one with no flash hider, so I could fill in the stock and use detachable mags. I paid 1500 for it (without the scope & rings), and would sell for 1400 if anyone is interested. Shipping is already paid, so the total would be 1400 shipped to your FFL. I’m waiting right now to see if the seller would take it back (-100) for his trouble, but wanted to see if anyone was interested in it. Thanks!

Have you considered welding up the Flash Holes in the Flash Hider? It'll work because I have an HK91 Clone that I had it done to.

Here is what I am talking about on the Vector page, just scroll down a little to see it: http://www.vectorarms.com/Accessorie...ccessories.htm
Instead of removing the FH just have your FFL weld it up.

Since its a 20" barrel, why not just cut off the flash hider then recrown? Or cut/recrown/rethread then attach a thread protector (or brake)? Would that completely mess up the rifle?

If I had the money, I'd take it off your hands...

So if anyone is still interested, 1400 pays for the receiver shipped to Ade, or your off-list friendly FFL and the rest of the parts shipped to you; but any gun smith work to resolve the flash hider issues is covered by the buyer and done prior to it being shipped. Thanks again to all for your help and input! (sorry for such a long post)

                Brasscoe,

There is allot of light at the end of your tunnel!

If you want to keep the rifle, here is what you need to do!

First, purchase a Phantom Muzzle Brake from Yankee Hill Machine.
Yes, it is a muzzle brake, not a flash hider.

Second, check out this link and contact Ed at hdps http://www.hdps.org/htm/5-2-1.htm

Third, If your Gunsmith cannot take care of this situation, Talk to Ed and let him know about your situation, he should be able to take care of it for you if your Gunsmith cannot.
Send your barreled action (upper receiver) and the MB to Ed, and he should be able to take care of your situation.

Fourth, Have the lower (thumbhole stock/trigger group) mailed directly to you

Fifth, Contact me (PM me) in a couple of weeks to see what I am doing with my SL8 Projects!

Yes, I have one SL8-1 I picked up back in Nov. and I have a brand new SL8-6 comming in about 1 week or so... Plus I have 2 HK USC's (one in transit) that are also going to be in my upcomming projects.

I hope this helps you out.
