Don't mean to dump on your listing but I think this is a 586, I may be wrong but I don't think so.

Yep ...686 would make it Stainless, his eyes must be going bad , and can't make out the mod. number...happens to me all the time...lol...

Nope guys - this is indeed a 686 blk stainless. Smith and Wesson made a run of these in the late 80's. Only 2800 made of these with this finish.

The 586 is a blued which I have as well and this is def black and is not a refinished job either. Any other questions please ask

Product Code 104250, made in 1988 - 1989 a limited run of 4 inch black stainless 686 was released.

Some Sig pistols are made in black stainless too. Not unheard of....

This gun is a very rare, 1 year production stainless 686 that's finished in a black nitride coating. It was initally called the Black Widow by S&W but they changed the name to Black Beauty, because of the protests by black widows (the women, not the spiders). Go figure.

I was GM of the largest gunstore in LA back in the late 80's and this gun was a special edition by S&W in 1988. In my records, the S&W rep told me there were only made 1,000 of them, not 2,800. Did you get the population report from S&W ?

I have one in my collection and it's a very cool gun that rarely comes up for sale. The last one I saw sell at a S&W auction, sold for $1000 + 15%. $650 is a bargain, considering that standard guns are selling for that much.

I contacted smith and wesson and they told me that 2800 were made. Now I know that they made some in both 4 and 6 in barrels. I don't know if that was combined or just the 4in ones.

I have one of these myself. It is a very rare gun. I think this is a bargain for any fellow Smith collectors out there.

Never was a smith fan, until saw a guy at the range doing a 5" spread on a 100 yard away target from a 4" 686. WOW!
