SFbay:WTT python(s) for quality metalworking lathe or bridgeport mill

    NOTE: TRADE ONLY!!!!

I have a variety of excellent quality pythons (4", 6", blued, SS, e-nick from different decades).

Update: also looking for a bridgeport mill in good condition.

I'm looking to trade one (or possibly two, or cash) for an 11" or 12" very good quality metal working lathe --- hardinge, pratt & Whitney, Rivett, Emco/Meier, Schaublin, possibly leblond. Not interested at all in south bend, or chinese import or similar quality lathes. I need runout of <= .0005 using a good indicator.

If you have such a lathe, I can send photos, or you could pick the python in person from a set.

I am NOT looking to sell. This is trade only. My apologies.

    Quality would be similar to:

Beautiful guns. Good luck with your search.

couple more photos --- no one has a quality lathe they don't need? It can be old as long as it's good quality.

This is a bi-centennial python that I'd consider trading for the lathe:

That bicentennial is purdy! I like the Eagle on the grip. Unfortunately I don't have a nice lathe to trade. Check out www.owwm.org, it's primarily a wood working site, but there are some metal machinery that pop up now and then.

Yeah, I really like the grips too. Haven't seen anywhere else to buy them though, unfortunately.

The ebony oversize eagle grips are kind of like them, w/o the emblem:

Though as a warning, both pairs I've put on have required some fitting.

              Thanks for the pointer!

No one person should be allowed so many beautiful Pythons!!!

You wouldn't be interested in a freshly restored Logan 825, would you?

                  Thanks Heatseeker!

I have nothing against logans. Hell, if I could get by w/ a chinese mini-lathe I'd use that.

Unfortunately the lathe is for fixing endshake on pythons (make a bushing, widen cylinder hole, cut barrel shoulder back) and the gunsmith giving me pointers is pretty specific about the brands he considers acceptable.

I won't have that many anymore; machines are &$&! expensive!

I wish I could find a gunsmith mentor local to me. One of the reasons I picked up and restored the old Logan was for 'smithing.

I'm sure you've been told, buying the machine is only the beginning. Wait until you start investing in tooling .

                    Good luck with your search.

                      Did I say close? Ha!

I had to fly out to AZ to work with Frank Glenn, and the other guy I've never met, despite 1000+ emails.

But, it's really helpful to have someone watch. Often you do a couple dumb mistakes you don't realize that a pro spots immediately.

Plus a bunch of the useful tricks never get written down or are so second nature the guy doesn't even think to say them.

I think I'll be ok for tooling --- I just need to do the three jobs on it (bushing, reaming, cutting barrel shoulder) so hopefully there's not too much.

On the other hand I keep eying a bridgeport w/ DRO for $3500. So that would take a big bite out of my colts.

Honestly I'm starting to like working on them more than shooting them these days. I still like girls, though, so things aren't too jacked up.

Close to buying cincinnati lathe, but just checking if anyone has something for trade.

You might consider selling one or two to buy the metal lathe you want!
