M-14 K38 Target Masterpiece For Sale (Bay Area)

I just saw the 60 Minutes piece about how there is a shortage of guns and all that made me feel guilty becuse I have one I never shoot.

It's a Model 14-3 K38 Target masterpiece with 6" pinned barrel, original walnut stocks, deep gloss blue finish.

It has been fired very little, only a few hundred rounds at most by me. I purchased it from the original owner and it appeared unused at the time or very little used if at all. There is a slight ring on the cylinder as all blue guns show if they are cycled. The bluing on the breech face does show some rub off from cartridge heads.

I bought the gun thinking it might be more accurate than my many model 66's I use for PPC shooting which are .357 caliber. Since, I only shoot 158 grain .38 ammo, I thought that a .38 might be more accurate. It turns out it is not, basically the same. I am not a fan of the wide trigger, and I prefer stainless guns to blue because then I don't have to take such care in handling.

I don't shoot this gun so I will sell it for $650. The finish appears perfect as far as I can tell except for the turn ring on the cylinder. It has never been holstered. The lockup is pretty tight, only very slight play. The cylinder has very little end shake. I measure barrel-cylinder gap of about .006" - .007" with cylinder pulled and pushed. Every cylinder tube checks good with range rod.

This gun has had a full trigger job and has an ultra smooth trigger pull. It is the smoothest SW trigger I have ever seen. It also has the overtravel set and has virtually zero overtravel on an SA pull. I measured the SA pull at 3# and the DA ranges from 7.5 - 8#. I think the springs are a little less than full power, but it fires all my ammo OK.

The front sight was milled slightly slightly narrower to present a better sight picture, because the stock blade was too wide for accurate bullseye sighting. The walnut grips are in perfect shape. The sides of the trigger and hammer have been polished. This really is a strikingly beautiful gun.

I will try to get pictures posted if I can figure out how.

    PRICE: $650

Location: Milpitas, can be seen and fired at Targetmasters by appointment

          Free bump.

I have my grandfather's K-38 Masterpiece (circa 1952). If you like revolvers, these and the Model 14 are fantastic guns for casual or semi-serious target shooting. Even without the sentimental attachment, I would never part with my gun.

I have taken three digital pictures with my Sony and loaded them up to my PC. They are in GIF files.

If anybody can advise how to post them, I am obliged.

OK, if nobody wants it that's cool. Considering the dismal state of the US dollar, the gun is going to increase in value a lot more than the money will in the next few years.
