I believe the P228 is one of the few remaining Sigs fully assembled in Germany which makes it special. The other Sigs with SS slides like P226, P229, and P220 have their stainless slides made in the US. But Sig is going to start producing P228R's with rails. They are going to throw the P228 slides on P229R frames. I prefer no rail on Sigs myself.

On the other side of the slide should have stamp "Made in Germany". Exeter - NH is stamped on the slide as importer. SIG US plant only make CNC machined stainless slide, they don't make stamp steel slide found on P228. On P229 and P226 where their stainless slide is made in US, they generally have "Frame made in Germany" stamped on the frame. However, some of those models are now made entirely in US where you can't find that wording on the frame anymore.
