    ARISAKA

Arisaka Rifle. Stock is cracked, and metal has definitely tasted the salt of the Pacific. $100. In Sonoma County.

Cool that it still has the chrysanthemum on the receiver, not many made it back that way. I have one too that I should get rid of but the flower is ground off.

You might want to check that "cracked stock" again, it may not actually be cracked since Arisaka buttstocks are actually two piece which makes them appear cracked.

Several days later the bolt was rusted shut but I guess the fouling wasnt TOO bad.

likely a type 99. look at it closely as the late war ones are kinda scary. earlier 99s are denoted by things like metal butt-plates, anti-aircraft sights, monopods/monopod mounts, cleaner metalwork, etc... i scored an early 99 at the show last year for 160 bucks with a beautiful chrome-lined bore that looked unfired. early 99s are great rifles but pretty much all 38s are well-made.
