Depending on the price, I'll take it.

Edit 7/14.... well beyond my means so must withdraw from the field.

On most modern Smith & Wesson revolvers, the model number is on the frame visible when you open the cylinder.

I'm pretty sure that you have a Model 27 (which is actually an N frame instead of an L frame), but I could be wrong (it might be a Model 19 with a custom front sight).

You might have a pre model 27. Def not a model 19 with that big screw in the side plate. My guess is that its a registered magnum which essentially is the very first .357 design or an early model 27. If thats true on either end, you have a very valuable firearm my friend.

Hammer doesn’t look original/correct, it could just be the photo. It may have been changed and the trigger as shown looks polished, but not just the front which is odd. Someone also painted the front sight and the original grips are gone. You can check the S/N and screws to make sure it’s a K-38 and not a Model 14-something. If it’s a model 14 based on the S/N then the value drops further.

NFI/interest, but I picked up a similar wheel gun for about $475 online, but with the correct target hammer, and spent twice what I paid to restore it and accurize.

Regardless it could/probably is a terrific shooter for someone at the right price and that’s up to each person to decide

Evil Dog, That's a good one. Most everyone on here would "take it" depending upon how inexpensive they could obtain it..... So, on that note, I'm second.

It is not a registered magnum.. 5 Screw so pre model number. Wrong grips, but a nice one depending on the asking price, which I thought had to be posted?

Thanks smithrjd. I did have a price initially, but the CalGunners were kind enough to take pity on my ignorance and suggested I further research to properly value the gun. The S&W forum is doing an amazing job and I'll update the price. Didn't see how to delete the post, so put TBD not to mislead anyone.

                          CrossRanger,
I'm glad that you did research a bit. It is not a cheap revolver, and getting harder to find in good condition. The grips are wrong and the front sight has paint. Still a very desirable S&W. A partial serial number IE S1234XX etc would pin it down to exactly what it is. My SWAG is a pre 27.

Not a Registered magnum. Elevation screw on rear sight denotes an early Model 27. The rear sight adjustment screw on a RM is tiny.

I have added the SN info to the post. S&W forum guys are telling me pre-75 circa 1955. I appreciate all your feedback!
