i believe the barrel is the firearm, the serial number is on the barrel not the frame, just my 2cents

The "receiver," which is normally attached to the barrel is the serialized part, but in this instance has been removed. The grip frame on the Ruger MK series is not a serialized part, unlike every other semi auto pistol, weird!
