WTT Vietnam Era AR15 Upper + Commando Style Pinned Barrel

    Location: Sacramento

I was given this upper by my father in law for my first build who has had it in his gun safe for decades and never knew what to do with it. I would like to pass this to more of a collector and get something more modern with better feed ramps...more compatibility and a longer barrel.

First off- I am more than happy to email detailed pictures - just PM me.
Second- I am open to negotiations - I know these are a little rare and cost maybe about the same to the right person, I am interested in a trade for an upper + barrel or Upper / Barrel / BCG. Yes - I expect to throw a bit of cash into the deal if the BCG is included. Used is fine as long as there is life left in it. Heavy is also fine. I am not too fussy.

Here is the 'story' as I know it. This is an unmarked 'old' upper. The paint is greyed a bit compared to modern 'black'. It looks 'different' to the more knowledgeable gun buddies I have who did some asking around...what I know comes from them. The upper has minimal wear marks. The upper is fixed to a 12 inch barrel that has a 4 inch suppressor pinned to it. I am ASSUMING that since the barrel is pinned to the suppressor this is legal as the combined length is 16 inches. Seems like other folks have pinned barrels on calguns - just maybe not this configuration.

The front sight on the barrel shows a little bit of wear around one pin. The barrel looks extremely clean- no pitting or marring or carbon and the rifling looks excellent. It has the short and steep feed ramps....basically there is an imperceptible 'lip' where the upper meets the barrel. I was told that there will most likely be feed problems until a few hundred round pass through. There doesnt seem to be much wear at all on the piece. The upper also has the ejection port hardware and the rear sight has the old school pin-type elevation setting.

This barrel and upper need to stay together due to the feed ramps- it is a rare combination I was told and that you cannot find barrels to match the ramps any longer- they are not made. Since I want a more accurate rifle that means I probably need a whole new upper assembly. Thus my offer to trade.

Feel free to ask for pictures...I am only willing to deal face to face due to the nature of these parts (I want to make sure communication is 100%) chances are who ever buys it will know more about it than I do. What I was told is that most likely this is an actual military surplus upper from Vietnam and the barrel was most likely from the 90s and that they need to stay together.

Now you know as much as I do without pictures.

I am hoping to get a more modern flat top upper receiver and would actually prefer a longer barrel and extra points for a complete upper with BCG...but bottom line is that I am just putting this out there and am ok with just about anything that isnt crap or used badly. I am hoping there is a collector out there that might appreciate this a bit more than I do and may be willing to swap uppers or swap with a bit of cash on my end. I do need something with a bit more function than looks and this has more of the look and less of the function...at least if you want a AR capable of greater than 100yds (which is where my head is at- a 12 inch barrel + 4 inch suppressor just isnt as capable as an 18 or 20 barrel as you all know)

You mentioned suppressor. Is it an actual suppressor? There may be some legal issues here with that upper.

Thanks for the correction suggestions...yes it is a flash suppressor / shroud and NOT an actual suppressor. The shroud is welded by a 'dot' weld to the barrel though it is pretty obvious this is just to comply with regulations in CA since it s a bit sloppy IMO.
