I had this bright idea of having a 45acp and a 40cal 1911 using the same frame from Enterprise Arms in Irwindale, CA using separate slides from them for each caliber. My first choice was the 45 which was hand lapped and fitted to the frame first. Then they had me test fire the 45 and I liked it a lot. I asked them if the 40 would be hand lapped and fitted the same way; they said it would affect the frame since was mated/matched specifically to the 45 slide. They advised that if I wanted the 40 to fit the way the 45 did I needed to buy another frame. I kept the 40 slide/barrel and recently found a used STI frame. My bad, my mistake...maybe your gain. And yes, I LOVE the 1911 double stack 45; the Enterprise Arms 40 Slide will be fitted to the STI frame with a Schuemann barrel, and I assume it'll be just as good or even better than my 45.
