WTS Nice Dillon 450 Progressive Press

Just upgraded to another RL1050 so up for sale is a very nice complete RL450 press. No dies but has the 5.56 shell plate. I can't find the manual but it should be free from Dillon.

First 250.00 owns it. FTF or add $$$ for shipping.

Everything, all you need are .223 dies. If you want to change calibers you will need another shell plate and powder drop and the correct dies.

Check eBay. I don't see any right now, but I see 450's there every few weeks in the $250-$300 range.

You would probably be better served by spending an extra $100+ for a NEW 550B.

                  Let's see,

                  550B - 450 = 100B

                  Sorry had to do it.

I have not used a 450, but I understand the primary difference is it does not have a removable tool head. I have heard you can buy a "kit" from Dillon to convert it to use 550 tool heads, but have put very little research into it.

I seem to recall hearing there is another noticable difference (perhaps in the powder system?), but I'm not certain.

As jandmtv suggested, many here would encourage you to get a 650 instead of the 550B. They are different and both have their advocates / benefits.

I spent many years using my brothers 550B and am comfortable with my output on it. I know it's up's and down's, and did not want to start over learning the 650. There have been many times I was glad the 550 did not auto index like the 650... most of the time that feature would be a true benefit. I also have access to conversions (for the 550) for calibers I shoot (but not enough to need my own set) - saving me set up time and money. The 550 costs less to buy and conversions cost less as well. The 550B is what I bought this year when I decided to get my own press (thank you stimulus check).

If you're starting from scratch and don't mind paying a bit extra up front (and a lot extra for the accessories you'll want to get), the 650 may be the better choice. By all accounts it can really crank out the ammo. I've heard it can be a chore to convert calibers, but haven't done it and that could just be sour grapes from 550 owners who are jealous.
