Good question! While DD website does refer to it as "FDE", it's really not. If you research, this is well known topic. I think (but not sure), technically it's a unique color referred to by some as "MilSpec+" that Cerakote makes just for DD on the Mil contracts for SOCOM. Bottom line, it's more of a dark brown, and does look almost black in my pics, but it's brown. Seems to be a bit of a cult item, does look cool IMO, but it won't match up to the conventional lighter tan components that most folks consider more standard FDE. Sorry, should have made that more clear.
