I do not think so. I have never fired this upper, but looks to have very low round count.

Colt SP1 (A1) original barrel was a lightweight 20" 1-in-12 twist. The installed barrel appears to be an A2 with 1-in-7 twist. A2 handguards shown in the picture instead of the triangular A1 handguards.

The M16A1 had a "tear drop" forward assist. The one you have there isn't an A1.

Looks to me likes it's an upper someone made for a retro build. Could be the guy had an older upper receiver, got his hands on a barrel assembly + handguards from a newer one.

Is the barrel heavy or light? You should be able to tell by either the weight or looking through the handguards at it.

Looks like a decent deal for someone who wants a "retroish" rifle that is also a decent shooter.

I bought a Colt AR-15 A2 Sporter II in 1984 brand new that came with that exact upper. It's a 1/7 twist barrel. I looks like a heavy barrel, but actually it is thin under the hand guards. It came with the A2 stock, A2 grip, A2 flash hider but I guess Colt didn't any Large hole A2 upper receivers so that's what was sold.

The firing pin is not shrouded on the bolt carrier. If it's a SHTF gun make sure the firing pin is shrouded. One time at the range, my bolt catch got caught on the firing pin and locked up the action. Had to put the bolt catch against the side of a wooden table and hit it from the other side to get it loose.

I still have the receipt, paid $489.95 at Sherwood Intl Export Corp, for those of you old enough to remember.

I checked out this upper last night. It does seem to be a lightweight barrel. I was surprised on how light the upper was compared to my 16". Overall the upper looks good and is g2g.
