You must have taken your photos with an iphone. The photos actually have an orientation from how the iphone is held. I believe right side up is when the button is on the right hand side when you take the photo. Iphone knows its own photos so it rotates it correctly for viewing, but when you send it off to another computer system it is presented as how your photo was taken. In this case your camera (iphone) was held upside down.
