Here's the deal with caps #10 CCI caps run small and can be dangerous if you are trying to put them a nipple that is to large for them. #10 Remington fit all of my cap and ball revolvers well but the new ones i have been buying are a little hotter than what they used to be and are causing a lot of cap jams. I would go with #11 CCI caps they are a little to big you can give them pinch and they will fit fine. I can use #10 CCI caps on my 58 Remington but like you said sometime it takes two hammer strikes to get them to go off. On my Colts their is not enough room between the recoil shield and nipple for them.

Their is one other thing you can do you chuck your nipples in a drill press and turn them down with a file to get #10 CCI caps to fit. That's not a bad way to go if you get #10 CCI caps all the time.
