    Misc brass, cheap

I just now put an advert in the S. F. bay area of Craig's list, for a quantity of brass we've accumulated, largely once-fired commercial 308 and 223, but also smaller quantities of other types, including a few boxes of commercial reloadable Boxer primed 8mm Mauser.

Its offered to the first person who will pick it up and pay us scrap brass value for it........have a look at the Craig's list advert.

On edit......yes, I forgot the rule about putting in a price. The last time we sold brass scrap at the scrap yard, it was $1.36/lb, so that what we'd ask for this lot.

    cheers

Which scrap yard have you been bringing your brass to? People on here say they are getting $.60 per pound or recyclers not even taking it. I have some brass I would like to recycle.

          Hi, Joe,

The 'we' in my comment about selling brass to the scrap yard is our local rifle club. One of the members handles selling the left-over brass, after members have taken some for reloading, and also the lead from the bullet trap.

I saw the scrap yard receipt from the last scrap sale, which was about three weeks or a month ago.....and it was $1.36/lb. for the brass.

I don't remember the name of the scrap yard, off-hand, but they are located on a side street off North 10th St. in San Jose. (we took a quantity of misc un-reloadable brass......22 and foreign Berdan cases......to that place ourselves, a year ago (approx), and sold it. I don't remember, exactly, what they paid, but the scrap market price was quite a bit higher at that time)

You are exactly right, tho, about other recyclers refusing to buy cartridge cases, or paying very little for them. With good reason, they fear having a melt 'spattered', with potential danger to workers, should a live round be dumped in with the brass.

We carefully inspect for any live rounds which may have inadvertently gotten mixed in with the cases, and the scrap yard people trust us about that detail.

          cheers

            Joe,

I'm not 'in the business' of selling brass......I'd rather see reloadable brass go to those who could use it, thats all.

I assure you that I'm not actually 'making a profit' on this stuff......considering the time/work it takes to sort reloadable brass, if I net anything, its far less than minimum wage.

Granted, I'd be going through the range brass anyway, to pluck out the belted mag cases, and a couple of other varieties we or friends save for our own reloading.....

            cheers
