With the shipping/transfer fee(~$75) it's almost the same price as a new one which you can buy at a local gun store for $479-$499 for the G17 and G22. Dunno about the G27 price.

I never could understand why anyone would want a police trade in of anything? If its a gun, its been shot the @#$# out of and if its a car its been beat up and ran the crap out of everyday.

          Uh.. no..

Most police guns have been fired very little.. to qualify and MAYBE a range run or two..

It's a fallacy that police fire the weapons a lot in training..

Mostly they will be beat cosmetically due to holster wear and it being treated like a tool (ie, not a safe queen)

But, as stated, it's not worth it by the time you ship it in and have it transfered..

Maybe you are right about how much they have been shot, but to me it makes no difference if it was shot little and carried every day,it makes the gun used and abused. All of my guns are in pristine condition and i wouldn't own them in any other way. I guess some people think its cool for bragging rights " this was a cops gun" to me i steer clear of those guns and don't think owning a cops gun makes it cooler because a cop owned it. But if your looking for a carry gun that is going to get cosmetic damage anyway, it might be a good way to go, but they should be substantially cheaper than new.

Some tradeins are in fine shape. Have a friend who has 2.

But like any used, common gun, if I have a choiice to buy new for $10 more I'll buy new.

You could never understand it, which is why we get the gems and you don't. lol

I bought a G27 trade in that looked basically brand new. I actually wanted one that was beat tho hell but this one showed up instead.

A friend bought 2 G22s and they were both basically brand new. I know another dude that bought a G26 and it looked new, too. My G27 was $445 OTD. The G22s were $428 OTD.

Equivalent to pulling the one arm bandit at a casino.... Only the house wins, except on a vary rare occasion, like you had. I wouldn't bank on that happening again.

You're right. The 5 trade-ins I've ever seen were fantastic. Never seen a turd in person. So it is very rare. So rare that 100% of the ones I've seen in person were awesome.

How many have you actually put your hands on? None?

I would be willing to take a risk at that price.

Some of us actually shoot and carry our guns. Therefore, ours will never be "pristine". They are beat up cosmetically in two months. Never seen a bad police trade except for shotguns but they were so cheap it didn't matter.

your right as i usually never buy a used gun. But this was also about ordering on the net, you get what shows up not what you hand picked. I want new and i actually shoot my guns too, even a few handguns with over 10k rounds thru them, you would have a hard time distinguishing them from new. Its easy to go thru many rounds when you can walk out your back door and shoot on your personal range...
But back to the topic, i was saying i wouldn't buy a cop trade in, do what you want, this is about my preferences not yours. Don't shoot the messenger, your cop trade in might jam anyway, hehe

If MAYBE the price was about $130 less, which is probably what the online seller paid the PD to obtain them, then it may be worth it. But to save ~$40 is not worth it in my opinion (do these even come with 2 magazines and the glock case?). I mean realistically we burn through $40 worth of ammo every 15-30 minutes (10-15 minutes if you bring a friend) at the gun range. Average range visit for me is two hours. If you want to support your local gun shop and enjoy paying the transfer fee and sales tax, then you are more than welcome at my shop. I sell pet rocks.

                              Mievil....
$428 otd was that including sales tax, ffl transfer fee, dros? That's a good deal. You saved about $100. But did that come with 1 magazine or two?

You guys have to realize the sellers clean the pistols really well. I'd check for paint/gun blue marks. I just can't imagine a police trade in being in "like new" condition, unless the police academy just ordered too many glocks and never fired them before turning them in. I'd be worried if my local PD trade ins were in like new condition. It tells me they aren't practicing enough and I'd hate to put my life in their hands. The more reason we should be allowed ccw'so, but that's a different forum. :-)
