No the barrel nut will not slide past the gas port. Just a bit too small. You could modify the I.D. slightly to fit, but that's a project.

thanks, i was coming to this conclusion and debating with myself if wanted to attempt to widen thoe hole.. guess im going to have to look for an alternative
