Just took out my Maverick 88 for the first time on Sunday, brought my Browning Maxus 28" and my wife's CZ O/U too, the $260 Maverick was hitting clays just as easily as the other $2800 in shotguns. Ran 100 shells through it and it performed 100%. My wife really liked the Maverick too.

This is a good deal so I'm not knocking it and this might date me as old but I remember when around $220 was the price for the Mossberg model 500 pump combo that came with the short barrel, the longer ventilated rib barrel, their early pistol grip (that got uncomfortable if you were shooting all day) and the traditional wood stock. It was the do everything gun, truck gun, home defense gun, hunting gun, etc.

And because it was a Mossberg and not their lesser subdivision Maverick the safety was ambidextrous and where I prefer it on pump shotguns, right on top of the receiver, just below your eye for quick viewing and a flick of the thumb to turn it to fire or safe.

They're also a few other small parts differences "The one-piece forearm can be replaced with OEM or aftermarket parts with the addition of an action slide tube, as the factory forearm has the action bars pinned into place. The Maverick series also does not come drilled and tapped for rail mounts like the 500 models" but this is still a great deal for anyone who's looking for a good/ reliable / inexpensive pump shotgun.
