What do you guys suggest for pigeon dispatch?

Pigeons are pretty tough to kill, their feathers are like armor LOL. If you can shoot them when their back is facing you, they drop much easier. My wife uses her crosman custom shop 1322 with a long target barrel to dispatch ground squirrels out to about 25 yds and pigeons out to about 15 yards. The model 1322 only has a max velocity of 460 FPS with full pumps. I have an older beeman air rifle that puts a pellet out at about 600 FPS and it kills pigeons pretty easily out past 25 yards. Both of our air guns have scopes.

Most of the modern pellet rifles and pistols are handily able to get above that 600 FPS mark, so then you are just looking at whether you want pump, compressed air or CO2. I would also look at the noise rating of the air gun, both my rifle and my wife’s pistol are loud. After a shot, it takes a while for the garden pests to return.

I’ve had .177 cal pellet and BB rifles as a kid, the .22 seem to hit harder and they are better at longer range and in wind than the .177.

thanks for the reply... I'm not well versed on air guns - but I looked at some of the options last night - I set the options to .177 pump 600-950 fps - low noise and sping/pump... only had two results and they are super cheap (linked below)... I didn't think those could possibly do the job - so I've waited until I can learn more (when I have more time).

based on your info, seems like it 'should' be enough?... I don't have much use for it other than eradicating the pigeons...

I'm willing to spend a couple/few hundred more... but I don't want overkill or loud. I don't have a clue what to look for really.
