jandmtv - Thanks for this heads up. They won't ship to CA but can ship to friend or relative - they said something about the receiver being put on a registry - whatever - the discount is worth the workaround! Thank you!

Do you have the autotrickler ?

Any reason why they're heavily discounting them? Bluetooth, usb ports, etc?

I wonder why they don't discount their kit, only the scale. I have been on the fence about getting on their waitlist for V3 after watching/reading reviews of the V2. Is it worth just buying the scale first and waiting for the V3 stuff after release?

And FYI. I ordered the scale when it was on sale from CE Products, they were $450 plus $20 shipping. If you add the Autotrickler parts (V3), it adds another $490. You can pre-order the full kit from CE for $940 plus shipping, and save yourself some money (about $40 depending on what CE charges for shipping). When the scale went on sale, they did not have the V3 kit listed in terms of price, I only saw it for the first time today, unfortunately.

CE Products full kit $940 plus shipping (no CA shipping)

CE sale price on scale $450 + 20 shipping (no CA shipping)
                        AutoTrickler V3 kit $490 + 19.95 shipping

                        Total $980

Ok, dumb question here... For most people not shooting benchrest of F-class, is this overkill? I thought the whole theory with OCW or ladder tests is to find loads that aren't sensitive to small deviations in powder charges?

To answer the above, it's not needed. The variations in charge from a good scale (vs a great scale, above) will generally be +/- 0.1 grain and that is going to get lost in all of the other variables (air pressure/altitude, weather, wind, etc) that most people don't fully account for unless you are bench/F-class/etc. (You could load to close tolerances but then lose all of that mid-hunt/mid-shoot because a storm shifted and the barometer changed.)

If you have $1k and you want "the best", well, top-end gear costs money. It's good to remove as many variable as possible (and I totally want one of these setups) but it's by no means required - they've been shooting 1k matches for decades ... if you need *precision* at 1k, well, spend the $1k.

And while I can totally appreciate the $450 for a precision lab-scale, I cannot say the same for the automated trickler. $99 or $149, sure, but IMO that price is outrageous for what it is.

                            Cheers,
                            -mox

They ship from Canada so it is an import - would not surprise me if the great State of CA sees a quality scale as a tool for a meth lab? Who knows. This is just what I was told when placing the order. Mine is in Portland now working it's way down to me. Also got on the wait list for the V3 autotrickler July expected ship.
